How to Play?
This interactive prime number tool offers many opportunities for students to explore numbers. To use the tool, drag, and drop the colored prime number and operations tiles onto the blank board. Organize the board into a chart or create fractions using the “sides,” “t-chart,” “fraction,” or “fractions” buttons. Use the pencil and eraser to write and erase numbers or words on the board. Press the trash can button to erase your work. You can use our online prime numbers tool in a variety of ways. Here are a few lesson ideas: Keep math fun and engaging with our other math manipulatives Use prime numbers to show the commutative property of multiplication. Show students how you can change the order of the factors to make multiplication easier. For example, 7 × 2 × 3 might be easier to solve if you change the order to 2 × 3 × 7. Simplify fractions, use the “fractions” button to create fractions. Simplify 6 over 9. Place 2 × 3 in the numerator to represent 6. Place 3 × 3 in the denominator to represent 9. Cancel out the 3 in the numerator and the 3 in the denominator and simplify 6 over 9 to 2 over 3. Find the least common multiple of two numbers. For example, challenge students to find the least common multiple of 21 and 9. Students can use the tiles to display factors of 21 and 9, which are 7 and 3, and 3 and 3.
